    Operating Instructions
    Last Update: February 26, 2007

This Help Document is published online to make sure users can easily get the latest update. We recommend that you save this HTML file in the same folder where you have installed HypnoStudio, and that you come back once in a while to check for new updates.

Thank you for downloading HypnoStudio. If used regularly and properly, this software can help you utilize all the power of your sub-conscious and un-conscious mind, therefore radically transforming your entire being as well as your surroundings.

    Current Release

The current version of HypnoStudio is 1.0.

    Overview

HypnoStudio is a software tool for Relaxation, Self-Hypnosis, Mind Re-programming and Self Improvement. By generating special "Soundscapes", it allows you to tap the depth of your unconscious mind and reshape your entire being.

HypnoStudio capable of playing back four simultaneous audio tracks (WAV and MP3 formats), plus a special Text-to-Speech track. One of those audio tracks should preferably be reserved for Binaural Beats, a special type of sound that helps stabilize your brain waves. Binaural Beats are included with the software..

Other sounds are also provided with this release, just as a guide: relaxing music, relaxing special effects (birds, rain and water) , affirmations/suggestions and mantras (sacred chants). Eventually, you should get (or record) your own new sounds.

    System requirements

    • A Pentium PC with either Windows 95, 98, NT4, 2000 or XP as its Operating System. This is NOT a Macintosh compatible application!

Windows XP users: please read carefully the section below regarding Text-to-Speech Engines.

    • DirectX Runtime installed. DirectX is an extension of the Windows operating system that handles multimedia functions, and is updated frequently. Download the latest version from Microsoft.

    • At least 11 Mb of RAM available AFTER Windows and all applications that the user launches at startup are running.

    • A suitable Text-To-Speech Engine should be present in your system to use HypnoStudio's Speech capabilities.

If HypnoStudio does not find any Speech Engine installed when launched, it may display a "Script Error" window and may not run.

Windows ME, 2000 and XP apparently install at least one Speech Engine by default. But you can download others that may be more compatible with your system and its configuration. Also, there are Speech Engines in other languages than English.

Download Free Microsoft Speech Engines HERE.

Ignore the text that reads "Note, that you must also install the Agent language component for the specified language, except for the American and British English engines."

We recommend you download and install first "Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice", and test it with HypnoStudio. If it works, try another one. All other text-to-speech engine at Microsoft are "Lernout & Hauspie TTS3000" series. To use those you may have to install the SAPI 4.0 Runtime Support, specially if you have previously installed "Microsoft Agent".

You DON'T need Microsoft Agent installed for HypnoStudio to have text-to-speech capabilities. You just need at least one of the engines recommended.

    • A good Sound Card. Some old sound cards may not be capable of playing back simultaneously all the sounds that HypnoStudio generates.

    • Some sounds to load. You may use the ones provided with the package, but try to load some WAV and MP3 files from different sources.

    Installation

Create a folder named "HypnoStudio" somewhere in your hard drive. Make sure you remember where. Example: C:\HypnoStudio

Double click the downloaded file HypnoStudioInstall.exe.

Use Browse button to select the destination folder. It can be also entered manually by directly typing the path. If the destination folder typed does not exist, it will be created automatically.

Press Install button to start extraction.

After the extraction is finished, go to the folder HypnoStudio (the one you've created), and you'll find a file named HypnoStudio1.exe. Double click that file to launch HypnoStudio. You can create an icon on the desktop by clicking HypnoStudio1.exe with the right mouse button and selecting "Send To > Desktop" from the menu that pops up.

A folder "Sounds" is created inside the HyonoStudio folder, containing audio files to get you started. HypnoStudio will attempt to load some of them automatically when the program is started.

    Usage

    Sound Channels

HypnoStudio has four Audio Channels (numbered 1 to 4) that can play sounds simultaneously and continuously. HypnoStudio automatically loops the sounds reproduced. This feature cannot be deactivated. These sounds are actually files such as WAV and MP3 that can be loaded by users of the program. Each channel has four "Sound Banks" (A,B,C,D) where the audio files are loaded. Only one of the banks of a Channel can be active, and therefore playing sound files. But one can have up to twelve sounds residing (or "queued") in HypnoStudio, waiting to be triggered either manually or automatically (this when HypnoStudio is in "Program Mode". More about this below)

To assign sounds to the different Channels and Banks, select a Bank from any Channel, and click the button "Load" below the Channel name (Channel1, Channel2, etc). A window will open allowing you to browse the contents of your hard drive and to select a WAV or MP3 file. HypnoStudio may successfully load and playback other sound formats, like AU, SND, Quicktime, etc., and even the audio of certain video files, like AVI, MPG and Real Video, but they are NOT expected by the software. Try them if you want, at your own risk.

Repeat the steps above to populate the four Channels and their respective four Banks. The full path and name of sound assigned to a Bank is shown in the "quartz-like" green display below each Channel. It will read something like "C:\audio\sounds\mysound.mp3", depending where you grabbed the sounds from.

To change the volume of a sound, click on the Bank where the sound is stored, and click the small "Plus / Minus" buttons below the text "Volume". The volume value is displayed in the small green box to the right of the "Plus / Minus" buttons.
To mute the Bank, press the button "M", located on top of the plus and minus button. A red light will come on while the bank is muted. Click again the "M" to un-mute the channel. The red light goes off.

The controls present in each channel with the heading "Hours" and "Minutes" are related to "Program Mode", which will be treated next.

    Speech
HypnoStudio has Text-To-Speech capabilities. You can type your own suggestions, subliminal messages or lessons, and HypnoStudio will read them for you while you do something else or while you sleep.

Speech is MUTED when the program starts, to avoid confusion. Access the Speech screen by clicking on the button "Speech" (top-right of initial main screen). The buttons "Load, Save, Play and Stop" present on the top of the "Sound" screen remain visible, while the "Speech" button you just clicked has now the label "Sound". If you click on it, you'll switch back to the main screen, the "Sound" screen.

    The Speech controls are:

    • Voice Number. Use the "Plus / Minus" buttons to switch between the voices you have installed (refer to the Installation section).

A description of the selected voice appears in the display immediately below this control

    • Voice Volume and Mute. Use the "Plus / Minus" buttons to increase and decrease the volume of the current voice. The "mute" button disables the voice completely. when clicked again, the mute button restores the voice to the volume previously assigned. The red "led" above the button "mute" lights up while Speech is muted.

The big green square space below the Speech controls is the text input window. There you can type or paste text. At any time you can modify this text, whether HypnoStudio is playing sounds or not.

All current Speech settings are stored when the general preferences are saved (with the "Save" button below the text "Program"). These settings are: the current voice, the current voice's volume, voice's muted status, and any text present in the text input window.

    Program Mode

HypnoStudio can be programmed to playback and loop all sounds loaded into its Banks for specific amounts of time. The primary purpose of this function is to allow the creation of "sessions" in which Binaural Beats are gradually changed to bring the brain to a certain state (let's say into deep trance), and perhaps back into another state (back into a state of alertness, for example)

A "Program" or "Session" can be as long as 24 hours. In Program Mode, the four audio channels always playback sequentially, starting with the sounds stored in Bank A, and ending with the sounds in Bank D. The duration of each sound is set with the "Hours" and "Minutes" controls located on in each channel.

    Let's create a simple Program:

    1. Mute all channels except Channel1.
    2. Click Bank A of Channel1.
    3. Load the "Beta" sound wave included with the program.
    4. Set the Minutes to 1, using the small "Plus" button.

    5. Click Bank B of Channel1.
    6. Load the "Alpha" sound wave included with the program.
    7. Set the Minutes to 1, using the small "Plus" button.

    8. Click Bank C of Channel1.
    9. Load the "Theta" sound wave included with the program.
    10. Set the Minutes to 1, using the small "Plus" button.

    11. Click Bank D of Channel1.
    12. Load the "Delta" sound wave included with the program.
    13. Set the Minutes to 1, using the small "Plus" button.

    14. Press "Play".

This programmed Session plays back the Beta wave (in Bank A) for 1 minute, then jumps to the Alpha wave in Bank B, plays it back for one minute, and so on until the Delta wave in Bank D played back for another minute. The program then stops all sounds.

    Minutes:   0------- 1------- 2------- 3------- 4
    Channel1 Bank:   A------- B------- C------- D-------
Sound File (Waves):   Beta Alpha Theta Delta Stop

The choice of 1 minute for each sounds was only for demonstration. In reality, you would need to play the waves for longer periods of time to allow your brain to sync with those frequencies and gradually achieve the desired effects (relaxation, trance, sleep, etc.).

The purpose of this document is not to teach the user how to achieve specific states of mind using HypnoStudio, but only to quickly teach how the program works.

Now, let's add a second sound to our "Program" or "Session".

    1. If the program is playing sounds, press "Stop".
    2. Un-mute Channel2.

    3. Click Bank A of Channel2.
    4. Load any sound (let's say a sound effect like rain).
    5. Set the Minutes to 2, using the small "Plus" button.

    6. Click Bank B of Channel2.
    7. Load a sound (let's say a sound effect like birds).
    8. Set the Minutes to 2, using the small "Plus" button.

    9. Click Bank C and make sure hours and minutes are set to 0
    10. Click Bank D and make sure hours and minutes are set to 0

    11. Press "Play"

Our "Program" is now set up like the diagram below:

    Minutes:   0------- 1------- 2------- 3------- 4

    Channel1 Bank:

    A-------

    B-------

    C-------

    D-------

Sound File (Waves):   Beta Alpha Theta Delta Stop

    Channel2 Bank:

    A--------------

    B--------------
    Sound File (Effect):   Rain Birds

    Let's examine one more scenario:

    1. If the program is playing sounds, press "Stop".
    2. Mute all Channels except 1 and 2.

    3. Click Bank A of Channel2.
    4. Leave whatever sound was there.
    5. Set the Minutes to 0, using the small "plus/minus" buttons.

    6. Click Bank B of Channel2.
    7. Leave whatever sound was there.
    8. Set the Minutes to 1, using the small "plus/minus" buttons.

    9. Click Bank C and make sure hours and minutes are set to 0
    10. Click Bank D and make sure hours and minutes are set to 0

    11. Press "Play"

Our "Program" is now set up like the diagram below:

    Minutes:   0------- 1------- 2------- 3------- 4

    Channel1 Bank:

    A-------

    B-------

    C-------

    D-------

Sound File (Waves):   Beta Alpha Theta Delta Stop

    Channel2 Bank:

    B-------

    D--------------------------

    Stop
Sound File (Effect):   Birds-- No sound---------------- Stop

Notice in Channel2 that as soon as you press Play, the red light of the Banks skips Bank A and jumps straight to Bank B. This is because Bank A was set to 0 minutes of playback. After Bank B has played its sound for one minute, the program checks Bank C for settings, and then Bank D. Because both are set to zero time, the light will straight to Bank D, and Channel2 will stop playing sounds.

    Saving and Loading Preferences

Clicking on the "Save" button (below the text "Program") saves all current settings: Sounds loaded and assigned to banks, Muted Channels, text typed or pasted in the Speech panel, and the current Program or "Session".

You can give the file containing those preferences any name, but it's recommended that you save it as a text file, with the extension ".txt". You can save an load as many as those files as you wish.

To retrieve a preferences file, click "Load" below the text "Program"

    Adding your own speech

Users have asked us how they can incorporate their own voice (or someone else's) into HypnoStudio. The answer is simple if you know how to record voice with a microphone in your computer and save it as an WAV or MP3 file. In this case, you just load those files like any other sound. Now, if you don't know how to record your voice, then you should read the article we have posted HERE

    To Do

Innerlab is also working on the following features (to be included in future versions):

    • Control of Pitch and Speed of the Speech Engine. You will be able to modify the voices installed, and save them. This feature is implemented, but disabled in the program because it hasn't been tested enough yet.

    • Full blown, built-in, Binaural Beats Generator. Each of the four Channels will have its own, which will allow you to create endless combinations of Binaural Beats, and explore practically all frequencies. Bottom line: unlimited potential for healing and self-improvement.

    Known Bugs

Some Windows XP users have reported a script error when launching the program. This error is common when HypnoStudio doesn't find a suitable Text-to-Speech engine installed in the system. It seems that only Windows XP users have reported this error because XP is the Operating System of choice right now, not because it wouldn't occur in Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and ME.

We encourage all users to report what they believe are bugs.
