Depending on what we are doing or thinking, our brain produces waves that can be measured (during an electro-encephalogram, for example). The range of brain waves has been classified in four distinct groups called:
Scientific research has found that using both audio and visual stimuli we can make our brains change their waves to match the "rhythm" of the audio and visual input. This natural reaction of the brain is referred as the "Follow Frequency Response". Listening to Binaural Beats is one way of accomplishing this.
Why would you want to do that at all? Because, first of all, our brains tends to be in "high gear" (Beta waves) all the time in our fast-paced society. Forcing the brain to produce -let's say- Alpha waves more often is known to result is a more balanced, happier and creative personality.
Training the brain to follow even lower frequencies like Theta can be instrumental in tapping the hidden powers of the mind, those "extra" perceptions and faculties that for ages it has been said that are latent in all of us.
On the other hand, for people who are depressed or lack will power, training the brain to produce more of the "fast" delta waves can result in a substantial increase in dynamism and energy.
